Fleeting

So I went up to my parents house yesterday, only to have the misfortune of finding their cat Lilly, Dead.   She was a great cat, and I am REALLY going to miss her, but sadly, like everything in life, it could not last.

This didn't take very long to draw, and I understand that it's a little macabre, but it will help me to remember her, and also, help me to remember that dying is okay.

Sad.

I recently read the book The Principles of Uncertainty by Maira Kalman (you would LOVE this book by the way, she's an illustrator for the NY Times and its love-love-lovely). Anyways, she was talking about how on most mornings she reads the obituaries over a cup of coffee. She states "It is not morbid. It is epic."

I'm a big advocate for how tragically beautiful death can be and it's a lovely, sad, drawing.

What blows me away (besides this beautiful drawing, of course!) is that this didn't take you very long to draw!

Erik is super human drawing man!
